The Importance Of BCAA-Branched Chain Amino Acids

The building block of muscle amino acids is the building block of protein. Three specific amino acids make up the BCAA: leucine, valine, and isoleucine. They belong to the group of essential amino acids which means that the body cannot produce them on its own and must be taken in through the diet.

Since muscle fibers are made up mostly of water and protein the importance of BCAAs for muscle maintenance and growth is extremely important. They are not a substitute for protein intake but rather they are a supplement to an already good protein intake.

BCAA is widely used and popular in bodybuilding and fitness as a “shaping” supplement. This is achieved by improved burning of subcutaneous fat but only if high-intensity resistance training is done. It gives a particularly good effect of cleansing fat if we are in a caloric deficit phase. Then the body is forced to consume from reserves which are to use subcutaneous fat as the only source of energy. Unlike other amino acids that are processed in the liver, these amino acids are absorbed directly into the muscles.

Leucine provides energy to the muscles during intense training and prevents the breakdown of muscle mass.  It also encourages the recovery of muscles skin and bones and the melting of the most difficult-to-dissolve fats even those that are deeper in the body and around the organs.

Valine – strengthens and supports the immune system and plays a role in muscle growth.

Isoleucine – plays a role in muscle recovery after exercise.

BCAA is found in powder and tablet/capsule form. The powder without added flavors and sweeteners is a better option.

Method of use

5 grams before sleep, 5 grams after training, 5 grams in the morning after waking up, and 5 grams before training.  It is recommended to drink it together with protein shakes.

It has been scientifically proven that these 3 amino acids work best together in a standard 2:1:1 ratio.
