Stretching means the ability of the body to stretch itself to change the position and condition of the muscles at a certain angle and without the use of additional weight other than one’s own body.

The recreationists very often skip this part of the training regardless of whether they jog, ride a bike, hike, swim, or are part of a fitness club. Flexibility training is the most underestimated component in any conditioning training. Today sports professionals emphasize that it is also a significant component in avoiding sports injuries.

Flexibility training should be performed in an appropriate period of your exercise and in an adequate manner. Many recreational athletes know a large number of flexibility exercises. They practice them at the wrong time of training and in the wrong way. They are convinced that they are done with the stretching and did not skip anything!

What are the benefits of flexibility training?

In general sports, sense flexibility is defined as the range of motion of joints and surrounding muscle structures during movement. By increasing the range of motion of the joint the degree of performing certain exercises also increases with a reduced risk of injury.

Muscle tightness is associated with a high risk of tearing muscle fibers which is extremely painful. In the prevention of the same flexibility training is a basic component. Flexibility allows for body awareness of stretched muscles. This allows relaxation and improves performance.

Dynamic stretching is a special type of stretching and should be performed during the warm-up phase of each workout. It increases the body temperature and improves the blood flow in the muscles and heart work. That is an important, element in preparing the body for any physical activity with a higher range of movements.

Passive stretching completes any physical activity and accelerates the recovery process after exposed muscle stress. During physical activity, muscle length shortens and it sometimes takes several hours to return to the original position. If you do the stretching immediately after the exercise session you shorten the recovery time of the muscles. They return to their normal length and condition faster. They are protected from chemical and metabolic damage. That would occur from the products that are created in the muscle tissue under the influence of physical effort.
