When we think about riding a bicycle, first of all, we have to ask ourselves whether we want to travel long and short distances, whether we want to perform tricks and jumps, whether or not to carry a load, whether comfort is more important to us, what kind of terrain we will ride on, etc. Аcording to the rules of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) the following are the most common types of bicycles:

Utility bicycles

These bikes are mostly city bikes.  People use them mostly locally for shorter journeys.  They have medium or heavy-weight frames and tires.  A basket for carrying small loads is often their regular equipment.

Mountain bicycles

We know these as all-terrain bikes and off-road bikes.  They have heavyweight frames with wide studded tires and crosswise handlebars. Their design helps the rider easily deal with sudden jolts or bumps in the road.  The tires are wide with intend to depreciate from the off-road surface.

Racing bicycles

A racing bicycle, which we also known as a road bike is a bicycle designed for competitive road cycling, a sport governed by and according to the rules of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). A stiff frame is their constructive material, which also adds to this responsiveness, but means you’ll feel more bumps on the road, and have a less comfortable ride. These are lightweight bikes with drop handlebars and narrow high-pressure tires. Designed for maximum speed, they have few accessories but multiple gears.

Touring bicycles

The only specialization of these bikes is that they are generalists, catering to a wide range of bicycle travel scenarios. Touring bikes have room for much wider tires with thicker tread. Even if you’re staying on pavement, you’ll want a wider tire for touring because of the extra weight of your bike and luggage, as well as decreasing your chance of a puncture. These are designed to keep the rider comfortable on long trips. They typically have a long wheelbase and flexible frame materials.

BMX or bicycle motocross bicycles

A BMX bike (bicycle motocross) is a bicycle designed specifically for completing jumps, tricks, and stunts. BMX bikes are less suited for riding on roads and often require a designated area depending on the chosen style of riding, such as a skate park or a pump track. These have relatively small frames with very wide treaded tires.

Cruiser bicycles

Cruiser Bicycles are similar to hybrid bikes in casual riding and have a very comfortable, upright riding position, and a large, comfortable seat. Cruisers usually have wide “balloon” tires, and handlebars that are even more upright, and in some cases, swept back compared to hybrid bikes. These are often available for rental at parks, boardwalks, or beaches with flat terrain.
